When I started my writing journey, I used to say I was a sponge. I was soaking in everything I could get my hands on to learn about the writing process. To be honest, I’m still doing that. It is quite time consuming- the books, podcasts, YouTube tutorials, writing conferences, agent queries, and countless conversations with those who have paved the path before me.
1. Book- “The Artist’s Way” by: Julia Cameron
This book takes you on a twelve-week-long program of finding your highest creative self. What I love about this book is that you can read one chapter and then devour the next right away or take a break and come back to it when you have time. I have read it several times and still find it helpful.
2. Podcast- “The Book Creator Podcast” by Rachel DiNunzio
This podcast is especially relevant for those looking to self-publish. But even if you don’t choose a self-publishing path, each of the 15–30-minute episodes will bring light to the many different steps of creating a book.
3. Critique Groups- Find one for the genre of book that you are focusing on and welcome the feedback with open arms. You are the ultimate creator of your book, but a good critique group can help you see things in your writing that are beyond your capabilities. My groups have been so, so valuable.
Until next time, Happy Reading!
